I think I might like Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge more than I like the first one. That’s saying something because I think the first one is a gem. The references and easter eggs used throughout Scare Package II will keep it interesting upon multiple viewings. There’s a lot to like about this movie. The framing narrative is a lot of fun, and the different segments offer interesting horror stories.
Aaron B. Koontz, Alexandra Barreto, Anthony Cousins, Jed Shepherd, and Rachele Wiggins direct the segments. I really appreciate what Koontz did with the continuation of the framing narrative with both himself and Cameron Burns returning for it. Each of the directors do a fantastic job of creating memorable stories that have distinctive looks.
The cast of Scare Package II is awesome. Jeremy King, Zoe Graham, Byron Brown, Chelsey Grant, and Dustin Rhodes return from the first movie. Rich Sommer, Kelli Maroney, Shakira Ja’nai Paye, Graham Skipper, and Maria Olsen make up just a fraction of the new cast. Everyone in the cast do such a great job in the segments of the movie. I wasn’t prepared for how much the cast would keep me laughing. It isn’t even that fact that I was kept laughing but how hard I continued laughing.
The effects throughout Scare Package II are pretty awesome. I was blown away by just how great the practical effects were. Some of the effects gave the movie the exact right feel. The set and costume design were top notch throughout the segments. They had the exact right feel for what they were meant to be. Alex Cuervo did a great job with the music.
Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge is a great sequel and loving send up of horror sequels. I tried to stay away from spoilers because I would be greatly disappointed in myself if I ruined this movie for anyone. Both of the Scare Package movies are fun love letters to the horror genre using the anthology format. Scare Package II just premiered on Shudder as part of their originals, and it just adds to the list of Shudder Originals that came out this year that rocked. I give Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge 9 VHS rewinders out of 10.
