Joe Bob’s Ghoultide Get-Together was exactly what the Mutant Fam needed. It’s been a long holiday season and I don’t expect that to change over the next couple of weeks. Darcy had heavily hinted at one of the movies, doing everything but right out saying what it would be. The movies ended up being Don’t Open Till Christmas and A Christmas Horror Story, which is a much more Christmassy selection than last year. This year the auction items were announced via informercials.
Don’t Open Till Christmas was a first time watch for me and I was into it as soon as I heard the drive-in totals. The breaks were filled with information about the messy production and how the majority of people involved had tragedy filled lives. The running gag of the advent calendar started which was a running gag through both movies. Darcy cosplayed as Caroline Munro from the movie, though she was festively dressed initially. The mailbag was a letter and a map of all Cracker Barrel locations circa 2008.
The trailers were pretty amazing. The first trailer was for Christmas Bloody Christmas, which I’ve already reviewed. The second trailer was Possession, which is coming to Shudder in January. The second trailer got me excited because I’ve never had the chance to see the movie so the opportunity is something that I’m looking forward to.
A Christmas Horror Story was the second movie. It was another first time watch for me. The breaks were filled with general information about the production of the movie. Darcy was cosplaying as Krampus for the entire movie. The advent calendar finished right before the mailbag, and it stuck to the same joke as it did through the entire episode. The mailbag was two letters, both heartfelt and caused both Joe Bob and Darcy to choke up.
The auctions are still going on until the 24th of December, so if you’re reading this before the auctions end and have the money for the auctions you can try your hand at winning them. The special is supposed to be up on Shudder on Sunday and if you haven’t seen it you’ll have a fun time with the movies. If you’re bidding on the auctions good luck and I hope you get what you want. I give Joe Bob’s Ghoultide Get-Together 10 stars out of 10.
