House of the Dragon Episode 4

“King of the Narrow Sea” is a weird episode of House of the Dragon. It’s the horniest episode of the show and also the one with the political intrigue. The majority of the episode deals with Daemon’s return to King’s Landing. It does start with Rhaenyra courting suitors, much to her own chagrin. Both Rhaenyra and Daemon return at the same time, which leads to them reconnecting. It also leads to Alicent and Rhaenyra reconnecting as well. This leads to the pair sneaking off, which is where the events that have the biggest ramifications happen. While out and about the Targaryens almost have sex but don’t. One of The Hand’s spies sees the princess leave the brothel. This leads to Daemon being exiled again and Rhaenyra being forced to marry Laenor Velaryon as well as Otto Hightower losing his position as The Hand.

This episode seems to be all set up for what will happen in the next episode or two. From the preview of the next episode, it seems like it is the start of the proper Targaryen war. It appears the Viserys will finally die, from what I think are wounds from the Iron Throne. Even with the episode being the horniest episode it is a low energy episode as well.

“King of the Narrow Sea” is all set up with no pay off, which isn’t a bad thing just underwhelming. I guess it makes sense that there would finally be an episode that was not action packed. It does seemingly set up the rest of the series to get going properly. I give “King of the Narrow Sea” 7.5 wooden crowns out of 10.
