The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power episodes 1 and 2

I was cautiously optimistic going into The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. I was unsure of what to expect other than some high fantasy and some much younger versions of characters from the novels/movies. I really only knew that Galadriel would be in the series, but I had no idea that Elrond would be a central character. Outside of those two characters there are several new characters that we meet.

The story has to do with the aftermath of the defeat of the Dark Lord Morgoth and the very beginning of Sauron’s rise to power. There’s a special combination of high fantasy and horror that works so incredibly well. The overall story is still being set up but it’s doing so incredibly well. The different stories and plotlines are interesting, especially with how far removed the series is from the established events.

Both “A Shadow of the Past” and “Adrift” are a great start to The Rings of Power. Watching these episodes have increased my desire to play Dungeons and Dragons, even more than I thought it would. The visuals and score fit right in with the established style of The Lord of the Rings. I look forward to seeing where the different plotlines go. The series is streaming on Amazon Prime Video with new episodes on the next few Fridays. I give the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power 9.5 rings out of 10.
