Revealer

Revealer was a surprise to me in multiple ways. I didn’t know anything about it until I saw the trailer during an episode of The Last Drive-in. The trailer immediately intrigued me and made me want to see it, even though it was being released when I wasn’t going to be able to watch it immediately. After finally getting to watch it my biggest gripe is that I don’t know if I’ll get more time in the world or with the characters.

The story Luke Boyce, Michael Moreci, and Tim Seeley came up with is so much fun. The script that Moreci and Seeley wrote based on the story is a lot of fun. They made two surprisingly likable characters that you end up rooting for. Boyce’s direction is really good, especially as it is his feature debut. The creative team made a really interesting world that got me invested in it and wanting more of it.

Caito Aase, Shaina Schrooten, Bishop Stevens, Phil Bogdan, Buzz Leer, and Sammy DelPurgatorio all kick so much ass as the cast of Revealer. Both Aase and Schrooten have so much charisma that you can’t help but root for them. That’s saying something with how unlikable Schrooten’s character is for the first half of the movie. The things that Aase is able to do while dancing is mind-blowing, because anyone that can do that surprises the hell outta me. The performances by the leads are the reason I want to be able to spend more time in this wonderfully weird world.

I really like how the CG is used in Revealer. They way its used to give life to the tentacles is something that could only be done using CG. The practical effects are just as good, if not better. The design for Asmodeus brings to my mind a more menacing and beefier version of from Dungeons and Dragons. The music by Alex Cuervo is really good. The score gives the movie that little extra bit it needs to have that 80s feel.

Revealer is a kickass apocalyptic movie set in the 80s. I continue to enjoy the movies Shudder pick up for release. I don’t know if there’s any plan for more in this world but knowing that both Michael Moreci and Tim Seeley have a background in comics gives me hope that it could be continued in comic form. That is if it is meant to be continued. You can watch Revealer on Shudder. I give Revealer 9.5 crowbars out of 10.
