The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs Season 4 Week 8

Week eight of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs season four was another double feature that was brought together with a theme. The theme was freaky dads, and the hint was as simple as “Last week was freaky moms, this week is freaky dads.” This was enough for me to try guessing, with a little help from a certain luchador. My guesses were The Stepfather and The Devils, which ended up being half right.

The first movie was The Stepfather, which was a first watch for me. It was the most obvious movie that fit into the theme. The segment breaks were filled with lots of knowledge not only about the cast but about the background on the movie. The writer got the idea for the movie from the story of John List. There was also talk about the two sequels, which Terry O’Quinn only came back for the first one. Darcy cosplayed as the titular character from the movie. The mailbag segment had to do with whether or not Joe Bob would show horror anime, which he said he would. The movie fades to black with Joe Bob telling multiple jokes much to Darcy’s chagrin.

The intermission trailers were for Revealer, which is being added to Shudder later this coming up week, and Popcorn, which is already on Shudder. Both look like they’ll be fun watches.

The second movie was The Freakmaker, which was not only a first watch but also the first time I even heard about the movie. This movie was chosen because of Donald Pleasence and his having of five daughters. The segments have to do not only with the people in the movie but the history of freakshows. One of the segments is one of the longest in The Last Drive-In history, which is just more time for Joe Bob based knowledge drops. The mailbag for this movie has to do with Joe Bob’s favorite drive-in experience. He tells the story of his viewing of 10 Angry Women. The show fades to the credits with a Joe Bob joke that Darcy didn’t get right away.

Week eight of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs season four was yet another fun double feature. My wrong guess of The Devils might have been taking the freaky fathers hint a little too literal, but even with the wrong guess it didn’t take anything away. This is another week that everyone will get to see it once it gets uploaded. It was another fun week of community with the rest of the Mutant Fam on Twitter. I give week eight of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs season four 10 stars out of 10.
