There had been rumors for a series for Obi-Wan ever since the first season of The Mandalorian was a big hit. The show finally premiered, on a Friday which is weird for Disney + series. It was a two-episode premiere with next four episodes being on the regular day of Wednesday. The first two episodes set up what to expect out of the rest of the series.
The story for Obi-Wan Kenobi deals with the titular character during his exile after Revenger of the Sith. He’s dealing with the trauma from that movie as well. The catalyst for the story happening is the kidnapping of Leia Organa. How Obi-Wan is played by Ewan McGregor is a much different Obi-Wan from the movies. Less sure of himself and wanting to stay disconnected from the world, even if he watches over Luke. Vivien Lyra Blair is amazing as Leia. She makes you realize that she’s always been rebellious and is so much like her birth mother its crazy. The main antagonist so far seems to be The Third Sister, a member of the Inquisitors who hunts Obi-Wan with a singlemindedness of an animal stalking prey. She is the reason that Obi-Wan finally learns of Anakin’s survival and full transition to Darth Vader and the second episode ends with him reeling from that information.
The effects so far are really good, but I would expect no less. The effects for The Grand Inquisitor look pretty good, even if people will have issue because of the difference in it and how the character looked in the animated series. The music is amazing especially the theme by John Williams. Natalie Holt does an absolutely amazing job with the music throughout the series.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Episodes 1&2 is a great start to a miniseries. I look forward to seeing where the story of the show goes, even if I feel like it is a series that wasn’t needed. I look forward to seeing young Leia Organa and how much trouble she ends up causing for everyone. There’s even talk of another fight between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan, which will be interesting with how different each of the characters are now. I give the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi 9 lightsaber hilts out of 10.
