Liar Liar

Liar Liar is a movie from my childhood that is just as funny now as it was when I was younger. There’s so much more that I didn’t pickup on when I saw it when I was younger. I also feel like this is one of Jim Carrey’s first kid’s movies. There are other movies that he was in that were adult but were kid friendly while this was a kid’s movie that had moments for the adults. This is also the second movie that paired the director Tom Shadyac and Jim Carrey.

Carrey is in full physical comedy mode in this. He throws himself around multiple times, and that’s not even mentioning the ways he contorts his face. He’s supported by Maura Tierney, Jennifer Tilly, Swoosie Kurtz, Amanda Donohoe, Anne Haney, and Justin Cooper. Everyone in the cast basically plays it straight for Carrey to play off of. They also allow him to find the heart in the character.

Liar Liar is a late 90s comedy that not only holds up but also shows an actor at the top of his very particular game. This recently had an anniversary and that’s what caused me to want to watch it again. It’s available on Amazon Prime Video until the end of the month. I give Liar Liar 9 blue pins out of 10.
