The fourth season of Cobra Kai is the first season that is wholly produced by Netflix. I fully expected there to be a drop in quality, but that’s mostly because I didn’t know if Sony Pictures Television would still be involved. They were and that almost certainly helped the quality basically the same. I would put this just a little under the previous season, but it was still quite good.
A lot of that comes from the new way that the legacy characters have been used. It lets the new characters evolve alongside the new characters. Terry Silver from The Karate Kid III is reintroduced and adds a new twist to the story. That combined with the partnership between Johnny and Daniel led to a lot of fun and interesting moments throughout the season. That combined with the evolution of the new characters led the story to interesting places.
I want to point out the continued evolution of the character of Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz. This past season has been him trying to redeem himself from his actions from the previous seasons. He was basically a slasher villain during the season finale of the second season, when he was stalking Demetri throughout the school. I expect his redemption arc will continue into the next season, which will be interesting with the new things that came to be at the finale of the new season.
There are so many new stories that were started in this season that look to be continued in the next season. The relationship between Sam and Miguel, Robby and Tory, and Johnny and Carmen all look to continue in interesting ways. The hostile takeover of Cobra Kai by Terry Silver, as well as other Silver machinations, look to add new and interesting story moments going forward. Daniel enlisting Chozen to help the continued fight against Cobra Kai.
The fourth season of Cobra Kai continues to be an incredibly enjoyable show. I don’t think that there’s been any announcements about the next season. That means I don’t know how long it will be before season five premieres or if there has been any new casting news. I give season four of Cobra Kai 8 headbands out of 10.
