Slumber Party Massacre 2

Slumber Party Massacre 2 | Ad-Free and Uncut | SHUDDER

Slumber Party Massacre 2 is kind of in the same boat as the first one. The VHS cover was so dynamic that it would always catch my eye, but it wasn’t dynamic enough for me to rent it over other movies. Young Michael would have gotten a kick out of this movie, but it wouldn’t have stayed in my mind. This is going to be a movie that I show people to see how they react to it. This is the right amount of mix between slasher and goofy comedy.

Slumber Party Massacre 2 was written and directed by Deborah Brock. She has several credits as director, most under a different name. Among them is V.R. Troopers, which means I almost certainly have seen her work before now. She brought a great balance to the movie, which is why its so fun to watch. The tone isn’t the most consistent but that just adds to the charm of the movie.

Slumber Party Massacre 2 stars Crystal Bernard, Heidi Kozak, Kimberly McArthur, Juliette Cummins, Patrick Lowe, Joel Hoffman, and Atanas Ilitch. I had only ever seen Crystal Bernard in sitcoms, Wings mostly, and this was a different role for her in my eyes. It was fun to see her doing something different than what I was used to. Heidi Kozak and Juliette Cummins had been in other horror movies before and after this, which is fun to see. Both had been in different movies in the Friday the 13th franchise. Atanas Ilitch is obviously having the most fun out of all the actors in the movie. You can see that just be the way he dances around onscreen.

The plot of Slumber Party Massacre 2 picks up about 5 years after the previous movie. The character of Courtney returns, she was apparently 12 years old as she is 17 in this movie. Characters mention that it has been 5 years since the events in the first movie. She’s in a band with three friends. They go away for the weekend; with the boy she likes coming later. She’s having weird nightmares/visions that terrify her. They start causing her to see things and just having negative effects on her. She starts seeing a leather clad rockabilly driller killer.

Whoever designed the drill guitar in the movie deserves to have an award, especially if it was a functional guitar. The whole design for the driller killer helps him standout. I wish that he had his own series of movies, because he was so fun to watch. The music was done by Richard Cox. I have to assume that means he wrote the original songs in the movie as well as the score, because the original songs are entertaining as hell.

Slumber Party Massacre 2 is a fun movie. I can understand why it wasn’t well received when originally released, but thankfully it found an audience on video. The third movie in the franchise seems to be hard to find and I’ve not heard much about it. I will see about where I can watch the remake so that I can cover it. I give Slumber Party Massacre 2 8 drill guitars out of 10.
